Cleansing Ritual with Copal – Inspired by Mayan Cosmology

Intention: To purify your space, body, and energy field, align with the elements, and connect to the Heart of the Sky (K’ux kaan) and the Heart of the Earth (K’ux ulew).

You will need:

• White copal resin
• A copal burner or fire-safe vessel
• Charcoal disc
• Sacred seeds (optional: cacao, corn, dried flowers)
• Water and salt (for blessing)
• Your voice or intention

Step-by-step ritual:

1. Prepare your space
   Open the windows. Create a small altar with the four elements: fire (candle), water, earth (a stone or plant), air (feather or incense).
2. Light the charcoal
   Ignite the charcoal and place it in your burner. Wait until it turns red-hot before adding the copal.
3. Offer the copal
   Place a small amount of resin on the charcoal. As the white smoke rises, visualize stagnant energies dissolving into light. Speak or hold your gratitude silently.
4. Walk in a spiral
   If you’re indoors, walk slowly in a spiral from the center outward, holding the burner, and invoke:
   “Junajpu, solar spirit, bring light to this place”
   “Ixchel, lunar mother, cleanse my heart”
   “Living Earth, receive this offering”
   “Ancestors, I honor and remember you”
5. Seal the ritual
   Mix a pinch of salt into water, sprinkle it lightly around your space, and sit quietly for a few moments. Listen.
